James H. Lockwood

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James “Jim” Lockwood of East Quogue, NY, who left us to be reunited with his son on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the age of 73, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 28, 1950, in San Bernadino, CA, Jim was the son of Arthur and Mildred Lockwood.

Never too far from the ocean, Jim grew up in Long Beach, NY. After serving our country in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War, he returned to New York and married the love of his life, Debbie in 1974. Together, they raised their beloved son, James “Jimmy” Henry Lockwood Jr., (Tara) and daughter, Kimberly Grimes (Stephen).  Jim will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Debbie, his daughter, Kimberly, his son-in-law, Stephen, his daughter-in-law, Tara, his grandchildren who are the “GEM” that left a sparkle in his eyes, Grace, Emma, and Matthew. He is preceded in death by his father, Arthur, his mother, Mildred and his son, Jimmy.

Living near the ocean must have sparked a deep-lifelong passion for fishing - a hobby that would later define a big part of his life’s joy and the countless bonds created between him and his family and friends. James was a devoted husband and a loving father who instilled in his children and grandchildren the values of respect, perseverance, and the importance of always doing the right thing. Some fond memories family members have shared are having him teach them how to bait a hook, cast a line, and the art of patience—both in fishing and in life.

Retiring a few years back, Jim found more time for outdoor adventures and activities. These moments were cherished by Jim, as he passed on his fishing skills and shared stories of the big catches and the ones that got away. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his infectious smile, and his unwavering dedication to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and the echoes of laughter by the water’s edge, where he spent the best days of his life.

Visiting hours will be held at Scott Rothwell Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Scott Rothwell Funeral Home with burial to follow at Calverton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Jim’s memory by taking a friend or family member fishing, casting a reel, and cherishing the memories shared with Jim.
